A Step in Mexico, Marek Wolfryd and Anuar Maauad, “Divino Engaño”

After four decades of work focused on Latin American art, La Cometa is entering a new stage with its arrival in Mexico. 

This new chapter begins with a collaboration with Mexican artists Anuar Maauad and Marek Wolfryd, and with the presentation of Divino Engaño, an exhibition project that arrived at the Plaza Fátima Cultural Center in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. 

Divino Engaño is the continuation of Il divino and Los Mundanos, a project presented at Casa Maauad in Mexico City in 2024. The exhibition brings together the work of Maauad and Wolfryd around an investigation that explores authorship, reproduction, and the cultural constructions of love, taking the Baroque and the work of Guido Reni as its starting point. 

From different perspectives, the artists find in this historical period a framework for addressing the present: the relationship between original and copy, the systems of production and circulation of images and objects, and the affective narratives that still shape our understanding of love, desire, and loss. 

For La Cometa, arriving in Mexico represents much more than a new geographical location. It is an opportunity to build close, long-term relationships with artists, collectors, curators, and institutions, and to actively participate in an art scene with which the gallery has sought to forge ever-deeper connections.
